Kirkpatrick Award dinner Thursday, March 6, 2008, honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of women in politics and civil society. Receiving the award were Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobrianksy; Nang Charm Tong of the Shan Women’s Action Network; and Nang Yain of the Women’s League of Burma. ...More |

IRI’s Leadership Institute Trains Women from Europe and Eurasia |

From October 12-15, 2007, IRI trained 33 young female leaders from Europe and Eurasia in political strategy, campaign techniques, and voter outreach. Participants were drawn from center-right parties in Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzgovina, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. They included youth leaders, city and regional council members, advisers to European parliamentarians, and grassroots activists. The training program, held in Budva, Montenegro, was the 16th session of IRI’s Leadership Institute for Central and Eastern Europe (LICEE), and is the first conducted in cooperation with the Women’s Democracy Network. ...More |

Jakarta, Indonesia: -- The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Women’s Democracy Network (WDN) conducted advocacy training for women civil society leaders from Bangladesh, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Moldova and Ukraine in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 28-31, 2007. The seminar provided training and networking opportunities to both women nongovernmental organization leaders and aspiring leaders. For many participants, this was the first opportunity to engage with their counterparts from a different part of the world and discuss issues than transcend regional boundaries. ...More |

Women Parliamentarians from Macedonia Participate in Study-Visit through IRI |

The Women’s Democracy Network hosted a delegation of six Macedonian women Members of Parliament in Washington, DC beginning on July 15 for a week-long study visit hosted in conjunction with IRI’s Europe Division and the Macedonian Embassy. The parliamentarians took part in meetings on Capitol Hill, at the State Department, USAID, and the National Security Council, and shadowed state legislators in Annapolis, MD in order to observe the workings of state-level government. ...More |
