Launched in 2007, WDN’s Country Chapter program creates partnerships between WDN and groups of women who volunteer their time to carry out the Network’s mission of women’s empowerment in their countries.
The Chapters are unique in that they coalesce women from different sectors and political parties, under one umbrella to address specific issues facing women in their communities or countries. Chapter members include women elected officials, political party activists, business owners, civil society activists, students and journalists.
The organizational structure of Chapters provides an exceptional venue where mentorship occurs naturally among already established women leaders and the new generation of women activists.
These country-based partnerships, which register as domestic nongovernmental organizations, are vital to leaving a sustainable legacy of WDN's work and are central to increasing women’s political participation as an avenue to improving the status of women in their countries.
