Launched in 2009, the Jordan Country Chapter encourages and supports women running for elected office, provides training and guidance on successful campaigning techniques, and encourages women voters to vote for women candidates to increase the number of women serving in elective office. Through trainings on democratic governance, the Chapter also works with female elected officials to ensure they have the skills and support to effectively carry out their duties.
In 2011, the Chapter conducted a series of skill-building workshops for female members of the Jordanian Parliament, five of whom are WDN members. The Chapter also launched its Municipality Project, which created a national network of women interested in running for the local and governorate elections scheduled for 2013. Through this project, women members of Parliament traveled to municipalities across Jordan where they trained potential women candidates on campaigning, leadership, constituency representation, electoral law and media relations.
In 2010, the Jordan Chapter focused on increasing the number of women running for Parliament, holding trainings throughout the country, and assigning Chapter members as campaign volunteers for women candidates in all 60 governorates.
