The WDN hosted from August 31-September 2, 2009, a WDN country chapter consultation and workshop in Tirana, Albania. The training seminar focused on building leadership skills and planning future activities of the WDN Albania country chapter. The country chapter consultation included a networking and informational meeting with women representatives from the NGO sector as well as a two-day training seminar for political party members.

Also present at the workshop were two members of parliament from Jordan, Ms. Tharwat Al-Amro and Ms. Amneh Al-Garagere. In support of the WDN’s goal to connect aspiring and accomplished women across the globe, the Jordanian WDN members discussed their work as candidates and as elected officials. In contrast to the closed political party candidate lists used in Albania, Ms. AlAmro and Ms. AlGaragere relied heavily on their personal network of friends and family to support their political campaigns.

WDN Albania chapter members also conducted a training of the trainers seminar in an effort to learn new skills and train possible political party candidates for the Albanian local elections in 2011.
