Washington, DC – Dr. Josephine Ojiambo, Ambassador to the United Nations and founding member of the Kenya country chapter of the Women’s Democracy Network (WDN), was interviewed by Bill Miller of South-South News to discuss a United Nations report that she co-wrote and published titled the Creative Economy Report 2010. The interview followed the United Nation’s March 30, 2011, release of the report.
During the interview, Ambassador Ojiambo, who is President of the United Nations General Assembly High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, discussed the importance of south-south cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and the global economy, noting that while the global economy was dropping by 12 percent, the global south had a growth rate of 14 percent.
Citing the Kenyan film sector as an example of the growth in the creative economy in the southern hemisphere, Ambassador Ojiambo went on to state, “the growth was largely across the south…this growth was twice as much as the growth between that of the south and the north. This is a very important finding because it speaks of sustainability for the creative economic initiatives in the south.”
