Guatemala City, Guatemala - Ana Patricia Chin Alvarez, a member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Democracy Network Guatemala country chapter, was appointed Coordinator of the Secretariat for Women for the Guatemala City branch of the Renewed Democratic Freedom political party. 

The appointment reinforces Alvarez’s commitment to the advancement of women to decision making positions in her country, “It is an honor to accept the position of the coordinator,” said Alvarez.

Her priorities include ensuring that more women serve as election observers during the 2011 municipal, parliamentary and presidential elections, and that women are empowered within her political party.

A lawyer herself, Alvarez focuses on educating women on the importance of knowing their legal rights and obligations. She is the executive director of Chin and Associates law firm, and works to inform women about civil and family law. Finally, Alvarez continues her dedication to educating women as a member of the examining board at the Mariano Gálvez University.
