Tbilisi, Georgia – The Women’s Democracy Network’s (WDN) Georgia Country Chapter recently completed its nation-wide Women’s Leadership School initiative. In just four months, the chapter conducted 10 training sessions focused on empowering young women to become more active in the political decision making processes in their country.

The initial call for candidates attracted more than 140 applications of which only 15 highly qualified and motivated candidates were chosen. The winners represented nine different Georgian political parties, women from civil society organizations and university students. The Women’s Leadership School trainings were designed to stimulate the participant’s knowledge and skills in the political and civil society arena. Each training session focused on a specific topic including the relationship between Georgia and international organizations, democratic principles, communication skills, media relations, conflict management, leadership qualities, political party structures and coalition building.
Along with skills training and capacity building, the women also had the opportunity to meet with women leaders, government officials and political party leaders with expertise in each session’s topic. As a result of the Women’s Leadership School, participant’s knowledge and self-confidence were raised and they are now actively pursuing opportunities to become more active in Georgian public life.
WDN is proud of the efforts of its Georgia Country Chapter as it carries out our shared mission of empowering women to greater participation in public life.
